Creative Tiles

h Pin It

My husband and I have finally cut a deal: I keep track of all the money I save us by couponing, reusing, etc...and in turn I get to spend the money saved to redecorate my kitchen and bathroom! I am so excited about this as you could imagine! So far I have spent just over $75 and I have everything I will need for my kitchen plans. I am going to refinish my countertops, paint my cabinets, redo my floor, tile a backsplash, and completely reorganize everything in my kitchen!
So tonight I have been hard at work testing the paint and chips on a section of my countertop and decorating my tiles for the backsplash. I am going to share with you my progress along the way as well as pics and directions so you can do this yourself someday.

First I purchased some 4x4 ceramic tiles from Lowes for 16 cents each. Color doesn't matter so I bought the cheapest I could find. Then I picked out a book of scrapbook paper with matching patterns in a color scheme that is going to match my new kitchen (browns and whites). I also picked up some Mod Podge and a pack of cheap foam brushes.

I cut out small squares of paper that would fit in the center of each tile with only a small space left around the edges. Then I applied a thin layer of mod podge, stuck down the paper and smoothed it out from the center (air bubbles were not my friend tonight), and applied anothower layer of mod podge over the paper and tile. I'm doing about 18 square foot tonight so I just made a little cycle of tiles and paper and applied a second coat of mod podge to each tile before laying them out on the floor to see what my final product will look like. Thus far I am beyond pleased with how they have turned out and I can't wait to get them on my wall! I now have to spray them with a clear coat to seal them and hopefully I will be able to apply them tomorrow!
